Major renovation of the Small Stage begins
The Macedonian National Theatre is launching an ambitious project for the complete reconstruction and modernization of the Small Stage, with the aim of providing world-class conditions for chamber performances.
The project, supported by the Ministry of Culture, includes replacing the outdated lighting and sound equipment with the latest digital technology. In addition to the technical upgrades, the auditorium will undergo a complete transformation.
What does the renovation include?
- New ergonomic seats with enhanced comfort for the audience.
- Improved acoustics of the space.
- Installation of a new ventilation and air-conditioning system.
- A modular stage that will allow for various stage configurations.

Due to construction work, the Small Stage will be closed to visitors from January 15 to March 15, 2026. All performances from the Small Stage repertoire will temporarily be staged in adapted venues or on the Main Stage.

The grand reopening is expected at the end of March with the premiere of a new domestic drama.
