Once, during a lecture, Goran Stefanovski told us that theater is a distorted mirror of reality that should emphasize the things we want to say to the world, and that this is best achieved when we steal—from those who are better writers than us and from life itself. "Marta Verina" is a drama where every single line is stolen from reality. This is a play written through a keyhole; it shows us life behind closed doors, at times to the point of discomfort from the intimacy we face. We know all its characters, we meet them every day, we love them or hate them, but they are not black and white; they possess all the tones of the spectrum and are simultaneously terribly right and terribly wrong. This is a drama in which the characters strip bare, peeling away all the layers they have created to protect themselves from the cruel world, showing themselves as we all are when we gather enough courage to look honestly into the distorted mirror that emphasizes all our flaws.
"Marta Verina" is a drama about people, about men, women, and children, and about how our actions affect those closest to us. But most of all, it is a drama about love. Inspired by the poetry of Aco Šopov, it creates a connection that tells us people are always the same; poems written over 50 years ago become fresh and modern, revealing the essence of these characters who exist here and now, and everywhere and always. Using the words we all hear and say every day, Marta tries to tell us a story about those things for which we usually have no words, for the moments in life when we are left speechless, because as Marta herself would say: "When people fall in love, fall out of love, and leave each other, it never has anything to do with words."
